Sitting in bed the following morning, I was trying to remember the dream I woke up from. But all I could recall was the wall of fire before me and a broken crown in one of my hands helplessly hanging by my sides.

I better listen to my queen then—that’s what the spirit that was possessing Dylan said. Then he said that I would never be one.

“You bet I won’t,” I muttered under my breath. A queen? If I became one, who would hunt my marks?

What the hell was that all about? The spirit’s words must have been what caused this bizarre dream. It happens all the time. You could’ve caught a glimpse of Pennywise on TV and then had an all-nighter nightmare.

Something else from the past days' events flashed in my memory. The day we imprisoned Paul. When we were in that forest cellar, Aaran punched him right before he was about to say something to me. Something like You’re Esther’s daughter, but you are not yet my . . . His what?
